Spirit of Merseyside Awards 2011

First Initiatives is a voluntary organisation providing real person-centred support enabling service users to realise their potential for independence. First Initiatives created a new Volunteer Co-ordinator role to ensure volunteers get the most out of volunteering for the organisation.  Many of the volunteers have mental health problems and learning disabilities and these new volunteering opportunities will enable them to learn new skills and interact with the new people.

Pam Leslie (staff member) received the Health Champion Award from Paul Acres, Chairman of NHS Sefton, at the prestigious NHS Staff Awards 2009, held at the Marriot Hotel, Liverpool. The Sefton Health & Social Care Quality Awards

First Initiatives are delighted to announce that we were shortlisted in The Sefton Health and Social Care Quality Awards 2010, for the category of Improving Patient Experience (Community) for its Sefton Mental Health Crisis House.

This was Sefton’s first Annual Quality Awards programme to recognise high quality of care and excellence in healthcare service delivery across the whole of Sefton.

This is service delivered in partnership with MerseyCare, CHART, Sefton Supporting People.

At the awards ceremony last night we were overjoyed to be named the winner of this category, against stiff competition from Sefton NHS / Aintree Hospital /Southport and Ormskisk Hospitals.

To top it all we were also the winners of the Chief Executive’s Award, an award which took into consideration all of the category winners.

The judges were not only impressed by the quality of the service, and its ability to consider service user’s views. But also the partnership approach to the delivery of this service.
